The Plays

First Laugh One-Act

In its third and final season, First Laugh One-Act Festival joins comedy writing and performance to explore “things that make us laugh every time.”  The first weekend will premiere a semi-staged reading of Pygmalion and Galatea: A Comedy of Eros‏, by Piccolo Ensemble Member Jessica Puller who also wrote Piccolo's recent holiday Panto, Clara & the Nutcracker!

The festival’s second weekend will showcase Yolanda Carney, grand prizewinner of First Laugh 2015 by presenting her full-length play Thinking Sacks of Meat.  This remarkable work brings life and humor to otherwise inanimate objects in an absurd yet moving narrative all can relate to.  Join us for two weekends of new comedy plays.  Rated "C" for Comedy (Recommended for ages 16+)

"In this world premiere musical, British Panto fuses with the retro-cool of classic science fiction to bring you a family-friendly, fairy tale of the future in a way only Piccolo Theatre can. Get ready for vibrant and honest characters, loads of slapstick, and a truly charming story, taking you where no show has gone before!" -Nicole Keating

Summary

A long time ago in a theatre not so far away was a Panto about a young boy named Mark Sleepwalker, who dreamed of going off on adventures. Mark's chance to prove himself has finally arrived, assuming his mother doesn't get in the way. In love with the beautiful princess Ha-el, Mark is off on a journey to retrieve the legendary helmet of the Lone Spaceman. Unfortunately, the evil Queen Livia, her bratty son Fenton, and her android clone of Princess Ha-el intend to make sure that Mark never returns from his quest. Martians, robots, and cream pies abound and the only way Mark can survive is if he learns to "use the Farce!"
